Perched at an altitude of around 3,500 feet above sea level, Illikkal Kallu is one of the most enchanting hilltop destinations in Kerala, located about 55 km from Kottayam. Famous for its breathtaking views and surreal atmosphere, this majestic rock formation stands tall amidst rolling hills and mist-laden valleys.
The name “Illikkal Kallu” refers to a huge boulder that appears to be precariously balanced on the edge of a cliff. The area is a photographer’s dream and a trekker’s paradise. On clear days, visitors can enjoy panoramic views stretching all the way to the Arabian Sea, and during monsoon and early mornings, the landscape transforms into a magical sea of clouds.
The short trek to the viewpoint is both thrilling and rewarding, with the cool mountain breeze and scenic beauty accompanying every step.
