Perched high among the majestic Munnar-Kottayam hills, Elaveezha Poonchira is a hidden paradise in Kerala that offers panoramic views, mystical legends, and one of the most stunning sunrise and sunset experiences in the Western Ghats. Located in Melukavu village, about 60 km from Kottayam, this sprawling valley surrounded by three enchanting hillocks – Mankunnu, Kodayathoormala, and Thonippara – sits at an altitude of about 3,200 feet above sea level.
The name Elaveezha Poonchira translates to “valley where leaves don’t fall”, referring to its treeless peaks where strong winds prevent even a single leaf from staying put. The untouched beauty, mist-cloaked mountains, and the calm breeze make it a perfect destination for trekkers, solitude-seekers, and photographers.
This offbeat gem is also steeped in mythology — it’s believed that the Pandavas stayed here during their exile, and Draupadi bathed in a pool formed here by the rains.
